10 – 11 Humanities (International General Certificate of Secondary Education, 20th Century History) is organized around the central idea of how war starts and ends – starting with World War One and ending with the Gulf War. Identifying historic conflict representing humanities greatest ideas and failures (including democracy, communism, apartheid, liberation, government overthrow, ideological conflict), this course prepares students for the IGCSE exams by studying the countries, times, and geographies involved with some of humanities greatest struggles. The guiding questions for this inquiry based course are: Why does a nation fight? How does a nation end conflict? Who are the victors in a war?
