KS3 English Literature and Language

Image result for book

In KS3 Literature, students begin the process of moving beyond reading for factual understanding. To do this several instructional methods are selected: students discuss, respond in writing to, and examine both the facts and analysis of central ideas across intertextual books along the same theme (such as “The Giver” and “A Wrinkle in Time” or “The Diary of Anne Frank” and “Ender’s Game”). Additionally, students develop multiple writing samples with academic MLA format essays, personal narrative, and historical fiction. Students in KS3 Literature should understand, at the end of the course, that language has multiple modalities and purposes for communication, stories convey meaning that transcends and connects beyond the page, and language both spoken and written is a way of documenting and practically developing thinking.
